RAJMA CURRY RECIPE WITH YOGURT | DAHI RAJMA RECIPE

Rajma curry recipe with yogurt (Dahi rajma)- different than usual punjabi rajma recipe. Gravy is made from yogurt and spiced with few spices.


The Dahi Rajma is a mouthwatering rajma curry that is made using homemade tomato puree which is slow cooked with Indian spice like garam masala powder, chilli powder mixed in yogurt and whole spice like bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves. You can serve this with some plain steamed rice or tawa paratha for a comforting meal.

 

INGREDIENTS –

  • ¾ cup Rajma (Red kidney beans)
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Oil
  • 1 medium or ¾ cup Onion finely chopped
  • 1 cup Plain Yogurt (dahi or curd) whisked
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Garam masala

 PREPPING AND COOKING RAJMA –

COOKING RAJMA –

  1. Wash rajma under running cold water till water runs clear.
  2. Soak them in enough water for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  3. Now discard the soaking water.
  4. Add rajma to the pressure cooker with 1 ½ cups of fresh water. Close the lid and put it the flame for cooking.
  5. Cook it for 1 whistle on HIGH then reduce the heat to low and cook for another 10 minutes.
  6. Let the pressure go down by itself and then open the lid.

MAKING DAHI RAJMA CURRY RECIPE –

  1. Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat.
  2. Once hot add chopped onions. Add salt to speed up the process.
  3. Cook till onions are soft and translucent or light pink in color.
  4. Now lower the heat to low. Add whisked yogurt.
  5. And immediately mix it to prevent it from curdling and Bring it to a simmer.
  6. Cook with stirring every 2 minutes till it becomes thick paste and you will notice the fat is appeared on the sides.
  7. Now add turmeric powder, red chili powder and coriander powder. Mix well and cook for a minute.
  8. Now add Rajma and Mix well.
  9. Also add its water used for cooking Rajma. If needed add fresh extra water.
  10. Mix well and bring it to a simmer.
  11. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes. Turn off the flame.

 Serve the dahi rajma with plain paratha or roti or rice.
