FOR THE SEASONING–

  • Mustard 1 Teaspoon
  • Curry leaves 8
  • 1-2 Red chili
  • Coriander Leaves

HOW TO MAKE RAW BANANA CURRY –

  1. Wash the Banana, remove/peel the skin carefully (so as to not damage the flesh) and cut into medium size cubes and soak in water (to avoid them from turning black).
  2. On a hot tawa/skillet, roast the whole red chillies, coriander seeds and coconut one by one. Allow to cool and using a little water grind them along with the rest of the ingredients mentioned under 'For the masala' to a fine paste.
  3. Add chopped onion, ginger, garlic to a mixer and grind it to a fine paste.
  4. Now, heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan and fry the raw banana for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Heat the remaining oil in the same pan, add mustard & cumin seeds. Then, add in the ground paste (onion, ginger, garlic) and saute till raw smell goes. Then add in dry masala powder (step 2), tomato and saute for a while.
  6. Now, add the fried Banana to it and mix. Add in 2-3 cups of water, add salt to taste and allow it to boil for 5-10 minutes.
  7. In another pan, heat the oil for seasoning. Toss in the mustard and when it stops spluttering add the curry leaves, broken red chilli, crushed garlic and finally add the coriander and cumin powders - quickly toss the ingredients in the hot oil using a spoon and remove from the flame immediately before the powders burn.
  8. Add this seasoning to the curry and cover the pan immediately so as to retain the aromas of the seasoning. Turn off the flame.

Garnish it with green coriander leaves and Serve the hot Banana Curry with steamed rice.
