BENGALI GARAM MASALA POWDER - A SPECIAL SPICE BLEND

Bengali Garam Masala is an aromatic spice mix powder made with warm and fragrant whole spices like Cinnamon, Cardamoms and Cloves. Powder is usually added while cooking or in the end along with some ghee. It is always best to use the finest quality and organic spices when making your garam masala. It gives the best result. Making Bengali garam masala powder is such a simple task that can be achieved in few minutes. Slightly roast the spices and grind into a fine powder. That is all!!



Bengali garam masala powder mainly consists of these 3 fragrant ingredients cinnamon, cardamoms and cloves. The net result is that it yields a more aromatic and sweeter version of the more commonly found North Indian garam masala. Bengali garam masala is a quintessential ingredient in Bengali cuisine. It is used either as whole or as powder.

 INGREDIENTS FOR BENGALI GARAM MASALA –

  • 2 large sticks cinnamon (about 3 inches), broken into smaller pieces
  • 20 to 30 green cardamoms, shelled (about 1 tablespoon cardamom seeds)
  • 2 tablespoons cloves

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING THE BENGALI GARAM MASALA –

  1. Heat frying pan or skillet on low flame.
  2. Add cinnamon, cloves and cardamoms in the pan and dry roast it for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Turn off the flame, take it off the heat and allow it to cool completely.
  4. Using a mixer grinder/ food processor/ coffee grinder to grind the roasted cinnamon, cloves and cardamoms into a fine powder.
  5. Store it in an airtight glass container.
  6. It stays fresh and fragrant for a long period of time (6 months or more).
